NEC Executive Head Chef honoured, as ballet moves in

Paul Gould, Group Executive Head Chef at The NEC Group’s catering division Amadeus, was honoured with a lifetime achievement award at the FSM awards dinner in London this week.
Alyson Cawley, MD of Amadeus, said: “We are delighted that Paul’s hard work, commitment, passion and immense creativity and vision have been recognised at the inaugural FSM awards.
Nominations for the award asked for people who “stand above all others in their lifetime dedication to the UK’s contract catering sector”.
Gould is the only British chef to have won all of the following: a gold medal at the World Culinary Olympics; the Craft Guild of Chefs Banqueting Award; the Grand Prix D’Honneur; and the Arthur Hope Trophy at the British Cookery Open Championships. He has also overseen the training of hundreds of young chefs, supporting them to net more than 600 major awards in recent years.
Gould trained at Birmingham College of Food before joining Amadeus 35 years ago as Head Chef. He became Executive Head Chef in 1988 and has overall responsibility for 42 restaurants and 130 outlets across four NEC Group sites. He manages a team of 80 chefs.
Meanwhile, this December the NEC’s exhibition hall space will be graced with ballet dancers as the venue invites Birmingham Royal Ballet (BRB) to rehearse.
BRB is to take Peter Wright’s Nutcracker to London’s O2 arena and rehearsal include working out at a mock-up performance area at the NEC Birmingham.
Keith Longmore, Communications Director at BRB, said: “As we’re unable to get into the O2 ahead of our performances there, we had to find somewhere large enough to allow the team to experience the difference in size and understand the knock on effect that will have on choreography – and where better than the NEC”.
Kathryn James, MD at the NEC, said: “I’m really looking forward to seeing NEC hall space used for something totally different – it just demonstrates the flexibility of our venue.”
