Meeting Professionals International (MPI) has created a scholarship for European students in honour of the much respected UK event industry leading figure Vanessa Cotton, who passed away in June 2010.
The project, which has collaborative funding from MPI, Reed Travel Exhibitions and Excel London, will enhance the opportunities presented to those beginning their careers in the meetings and events industry, while creating a lasting legacy for Vanessa.
“We are delighted to be involved with the Vanessa Cotton Memorial Student Award,” said James Rees, Director of Conferences and Events at Excel London, a venue where Vanessa had worked as Conference and Events Division MD.
“Vanessa was extremely passionate about the events industry and encouraging new talent. This is a very fitting legacy and one that we are proud to support,” Rees added.
The scholarship will be available to MPI member and non-member students and will sponsor registration, accommodation and travel for at least one student to experience the professional development and networking at the European Meetings and Events Conference (EMEC).
The Vanessa Cotton Memorial Scholarship opened on 12 September 2011, and students can find information on criteria and the application process on the MPI UK & Ireland website. The winner will be announced at the MPI stand during EIBTM Barcelona in December.
