The Association of Event Organisers (AEO) has appointed Mack Brooks CEO Stephen Brooks as its new Chairman. He replaces Doug Emslie from Tarsus, who has been in the post since September 2009.
Brooks was named Emslie’s successor at the recent AEO annual general meeting. The AEO also recently announced Karim Halwagi as its new CEO, replacing Austen Hawkins. The former ITE Group and Expomedia staffer will takeover the CEO role officially from 2012 as part of an extended handover period.
Other new AEO appointments include Quartz Business Media’s MD Paul Michael as Vice-Chairman, replacing Upper Street Events’ Paul Byrom. Brintex MD Malcolm Taylor remains Treasurer and Neil Felton of Fespa, Austen Hawkins of F2F Events, Carsten Holm of Diversified Business Communications UK and Phil Soar of Transec Exhibitions have also joined the board.
“I am honoured to take over the chairmanship of AEO,” Brooks said of his appointment. “The association will make promoting the industry its priority and through its marketing arm, FaceTime, will drive activity that influences the people who spend money on events. We have more networking opportunities coming up and will continue to make AEO the hub for the industry to meet, establish best practice, share ideas and do business.”
Brooks also thanked Emslie for his valuable contribution over the last two years.
“We will continue to work on services and events that deliver value to our members. And we will look to grow membership and expand our community,” he added.
AEO CEO Karim Halwagi said Brooks’ experience and high profile within the events and exhibition industry will be a great asset to the association.
