BI’s Hackett leaves for London 2012 Olympic Hospitality Centre caterer

Conference and incentives agency BI Worldwide has announced that its Chairman, David Hackett, will leave the business in October.

He is to work full-time with the caterer for the London 2012 Olympic Hospitality Centre, Smart Event Catering’s parent company, Quantum Leap Events.

Hackett, whose standing in the meetings industry was recognised by the Eventia Lifetime Achievement Award in 2006, teamed up with hospitality and catering agency Quantum Leap Events in 2010.

“Greg Lawson (CEO) and I have done business together over many years” explained Hackett. “I got directly involved when their division, Smart Event Catering, was bidding to be the caterer at the London 2012 Olympic Hospitality Centre and I helped shape the pitch. We are delighted to have now won the contract to cater for the dining venue at the Olympic Park. I will be working with Smart to engage with corporate sponsors and the IOC to ensure we deliver outstanding solutions for their hospitality. I hope I cancontinue to contribute to QLE’s growth strategy on other fronts”.

Hackett has been with BI for 31 years, including 10 since it was sold to Minneapolis-based BI in July 2001. He was a founder of The Travel Organisation, which subsequently rebranded as TMO (The Marketing Organisation) prior to BI’s involvement.

In 2005, Hackett’s expected retirement was delayed when he secured the opportunity for BI to purchase Australia-based The MINT Organisation. That acquisition extended BI’s operations into Australia, Asia and the Middle East and for three years Hackett supported the integration process, commuting monthly to the MINT office in Dubai. He returned to the UK in late 2009 after BI completed its acquisition of MINT Dubai, Singapore and China.

“I retained my role as Chairman and am proud to have continued to contribute to the business since we sold 10 years ago,” said Hackett, “but now I am looking forward to pursuing other opportunities.”

MD of BI in the UK, Mike Davies, said: “David’s experience and reputation in the events industry is unparallelled and his advice to me over the past couple of years has been invaluable. We wish himevery success in the future”.

Hackett is also looking to apply his knowledge and experience internationally – including training hotels and destinations on how to win and develop meeting and incentive business. He has established the brand Meetings Guru as a vehicle for his new activities. “The next year promises to be very exciting” Hackett added.
