Gemini lands Liverpool Global Entrepreneurship Congress

Cheshire-based Gemini International will event manage the 2012 Global Entrepreneurship Congress (GEC) for Liverpool following a competitive tender.

The firm, whose clients have included Astra Zeneca, British Water, Pfizer and Special Olympics, was appointed by Liverpool Vision, the city’s economic development company, to organise GEC when the event comes to a European city for the first time.

Leading entrepreneurs, thought leaders and economists from 100 countries are expected in Liverpool for the congress, with the main conference being held at the BT Convention Centre next March.

Previous recent host cities have been Kansas City, Dubai and Shanghai, the host city for the 2011 Congress.

Gemini International’s Christine Kelly said she was “delighted” with the appointment and “very proud to bring together an expert team of north-west entrepreneurs as partners”.

“Our team will support Liverpool Vision in highlighting Liverpool’s strengths as a capital of entrepreneurship and ensure the Kauffman Foundation surpass their objectives for the Global Entrepreneurship Congress.”

The Kauffman Foundation is a non-profit foundation based in Kansas City, Missouri, working to advance entrepreneurship education and training.

Jonathan Ortmans, Chief Policy Officer for the Foundation, who led the selection process for the host city, made a familiarisation visit to Liverpool last week and met with city and business leaders.

Max Steinberg, Chief Executive of Liverpool Vision, said: “Gemini International’s presentation was enthusiastic and passionate and showed a huge commitment not only to entrepreneurship and enterprise, but also to develop this agenda in Liverpool for years to come.

ACC Liverpool hosted a double showcase event at the Liverpool Embassy in London last week. The first event was for 35 association event planners, including the Royal College of Nursing, Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland, and the British Dental Association. There was also a Summer Soiree event for corporate contacts.

Guests had the chance to get an update on the development plans for the new Exhibition and Events Complex at ACC Liverpool and find out what Liverpool has to offer as a conference destination.

Kerrin MacPhie, ACC Liverpool Director of Sales, said: “As our annual end of year showcase has been a success for the last five years we decided to host a similar summer event to give our association and corporate clients another opportunity to meet the team in London.”
