Ian Sparks replaces Ian Burnley as CEO of Expotel

International travel and event management agency Expotel has appointed Ian Sparks as its new Group Chief Executive, effective 4 July 2011.
Sparks was most recently MD of FirstAssist Services, the health and wellbeing service provider, overseeing significant growth and its sale from Barclays Private Equity to Capita. Prior to this, he was Chief Executive of The Casella Group, the environmental services business; Chief Executive of Cendant’s European relocation and real estate business; and a GM at travel agent Thomas Cook.
Sparks says his focus will be on accelerating the delivery of Expotel’s ambitious growth plans for the coming years and on evolving Expotel from a hotel booking agent into a strong travel management company.
“The board is excited to appoint Ian to the position of CEO,” says Expotel’s Chairman, Richard Lovell. “He has a strong record of delivering excellence in business service organisation resulting from always putting the needs of customers and partners at the heart of the business.”
Recently, CN reported Expotel Group CEO Ian Burnley stepping down in June. Burnley had spent five years as CEO of the Expotel Group, during which time the business expanded its operations and completed four acquisitions including NIS and Venues Event Management, one of the UK’s leading MICE operators.
