Eastbourne Convention Bureau wins UKIP conference through Twitter

Nationalist party, UKIP, is to hold its national conference in Devonshire Park Centre this September after the Eastbourne Conference Bureau (ECB) spotted party members discussing Eastbourne on social networking site Twitter.

ECB noticed UKIP members mentioning Eastbourne on Twitter as a potential destination for this year’s event and, after a series of tweets and phone calls, the bureau secured the national conference at the town’s Devonshire Park Centre.

The UKIP event will take place this September and the seaside resort expects up to 900 delegates.

Earlier in the year the bureau secured three new conferences and events expected to generate £1m for the town over the next two years. They will bring 1,800 delegates to the destination between now and 2013, including a Southern Rail event.

“The booking is made even more exciting by the fact that we won it through Twitter,” said Eastbourne Borough Council Senior Head of Tourism and Leisure Tracey McNulty. “We are always exploring new ways to market ECB and the Devonshire Park Centre and our move into the social networking world is certainly paying off.”
