Aberdeen event wins worth £1m

Aberdeen Convention Bureau has bagged a number of new events, worth over £1m to the local economy.
The Global Business Travel Association is to hold its Oil, Gas and Marine Travel Conference at the Thistle Aberdeen Altens Hotel in October this year, attracting 110 delegates over two days.
The Universities’ Travel Studies Group (UTSG) Conference has been secured for January 2012, which will bring up to 130 delegates to the University of Aberdeen.
The bureau has also confirmed the 2015 International Conference on the Bioscience of Lipids (ICBL) for Aberdeen, expected to draw up to 400 people and The Society of Core Analysts (SCA), which is to hold its annual symposium in Aberdeen for the first time in October 2012.
Aberdeen Convention Bureau Conference Support Manager, Alesia du Plessis, said: “These new wins show the strength of the business tourism sector, and its growing importance to the local economy.
“We are now better able to compete internationally for conferences, thanks to recent investments which have resulted in increased bedrooms, new hotel and conference facilities and major developments such as the Trump golf resort and improved links from Aberdeen Airport.”
