York wins the Group Travel Organisers Association AGM 2012

York has won the bid to host the Group Travel Organisers Association (GTOA) AGM 2012.
The conference, which has been described by conference bureau York and Scarborough Conferences as a “major coup” for the city, will take place at the Park Inn Hotel between 20 and 22 January 2012.
York and Scarborough Conferences’ Business Tourism Marketing Manager Laura Freer said: “We are delighted that York will be the host city for the next GTOA AGM and Conference. This represents a perfect opportunity to showcase the city and all it has to offer to the important group travel market, a sector which generates millions of pounds worth of business for York each year.”
According to the latest Visit York research, group visits generated an estimated £25,455,104 of direct income to York in 2010. Approximately 78 per cent of this was from staying visitors and 22 per cent was from group day visitors. The average size of each visiting group was 30 and the total number of group visits to York in 2010 was 9,400.
The GTOA AGM is expected to attract 230 delegates, ranging from tour and coach operators to group travel organisers, blue badge guides and hotel chains including Rezidor, Hilton, Ramada and Marriott.
