Southport clinches £2m of conference spring business 2012

Southport Conferences reports it has clinched two large events which it expects to generate £2m for the town’s economy and bring 1,300 delegates to the resort next spring.
UK crafts association the Embroiderers Guild brings its annual conference to Southport Theatre and Convention Centre (STCC) 30-31 March 2012. The two-day event is expected to attract 300 delegates.
This will be followed shortly after by the Christian event, ‘ECG 2012’ also hosted by the STCC from 10-15 April 2012. This will be a five-day event with 1,000 delegates expected.
Other conferences already signed in to the resort next spring include the Prison Officers Association and Fire Brigades Union, and the British Association of Barbershop Singers, which aims to bring 1,500 delegates to the town in May 2012.
Commenting on the wins, Mike Booth, Cabinet Member Leisure, Culture and Tourism Services, Sefton Council said: “Through the efforts of the Southport Conferences team, we are thrilled to announce these new events that are coming to Southport next year, bringing a major boost for the town. These latest wins and the diversity of events being held in the town further exemplify just how versatile Southport and its facilities are.”
