NEC invests £2m in new IT infrastructure

The NEC, working with Freedom Communication and Alcatel-Lucent, is upgrading its IT infrastructure to bring together multiple systems onto one robust network to be managed through a new venue operations centre.

Riach Ryder, Operations Director, The NEC said: “This is a vital investment and the upgrade to this new, intelligent system means we will be able to better serve our customers.

“The new infrastructure will give our customers far more control and enable us to offer flexible services to all of our customers – for example, we’ll have the option to scale up or down our in-hall internet connectivity depending on the requirements of the exhibitor.”

The new IT network will, The NEC claims, streamline the event network, the corporate network and a range of access control and security networks, resulting in a single systemacross the NEC campus.

The NEC expects to see the new infrastructure in place by autumn and there are plans post-installation to introduce more new technologies to ‘plug in’ to the new system by the end of the year.
