IFS 2011 brings £4m in economic benefit to Blackpool

Six thousand delegates descended on Blackpool for the recent 2011 International Fitness Showcase (IFS), which brought £4m in economic benefit to the town.

IFS, produced and managed by Chrysalis Promotions, took place at the newly-restored Winter gardens complex across three days where delegates took part in 300 separate aerobics, step, spinning, weights and other popular fitness classes.

Visit Blackpool’s Business Tourism Manager, Mandy Tythe-McCallum, said: “The International Fitness Showcase is a great example of the type of dynamic and lucrative conventions that we are working very hard to secure for Blackpool, and I’m delighted that it has gone so well for all those involved and that they will be returning next year.”

Local businesses, including hotels and retailers, also reaped the benefits of the event. Alison Gilmore, General Manager of Blackpool’s Barcelo Imperial Hotel, said: “Events like the International Fitness Showcase are fabulous for Blackpool. We as a business greatly value this type of corporate gathering coming into the resort and we look forward to working closer with Visit Blackpool to help bring more high volume and good quality conferences and exhibitions to the town.”
