Google has launched as part of its Google Maps product an aggregate of real-time hotel rates and availability.
The internet search engine giant initially offered this service to online travel agencies such as Expedia and Hotels.com but has since approached central reservations system (CRS) providers to offer the same service.
The new product, which has passed the testing phase and has gone live, adds average price and availability to hotel search results in Google Maps. It allows users to click on a dropdown button to see what prices websites are offering for the same hotel.
Trust International, which offers distribution for 6,500 international hotels such as Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces in Mumbai; Rotana Hotels in Abu Dhabi; and Leading Hotels of the World in New York, claimed to be the first CRS to offer rates and availability to Google.
“I believe Google has the ability to change buying behaviours. They’ve done it in other industries, and now they’re focusing on the travel and hotel side,” Trust International’s Richard Wiegmann told news agency Hotelnewsnow.com. “It is a very powerful company that moves very fast and is very successful.”
La Quinta Inns and Suites and the Wyndham Hotel Group have said they are testing the programmes.
