Earls Court and Olympia Venues (EC&O) is in talks to develop its Olympia 2 venue space to further enhance its conference offering.
The news was announced as part of the Earls Court masterplan, which is open for public consultation from Friday 18 March at the venue.
EC&O Venues Commercial Director Anna Golden told CN: “Olympia has a good conference business, however conferences make up only 10 per cent of our core business.
“We have space to fit 250 theatre-style for small conferences, which usually are associated with exhibitions, however we are reviewing this offer and developing Olympia 2 is something we are focusing on.”
Earls Court venue owner Capital and Counties (CapCo) plans to develop the 77-acre West London events venue site into four villages and a high street creating up to 7,500 new homes and a new public park. As well as Earls Court, the masterplan site includes the Seagrove Road car park, railway lands, West Kensington and Gibbs Green housing estates.
The seven-phase plan, dependant on CapCo getting planning approval, enivages the earliest work can begin on the site is September 2012, though Golden says EC&O Venues is in contract negotiations for events until at least that time. Olympia will re-house the Earls Court events business, with EC&O expecting 70 per cent of events to relocate there.
CapCo will submit its masterplan for planning approval in June. In the meantime, work has begun on the £20m redevelopment of the Olympia site including the expanded and enhanced West Hall.
