University has won the contract to host the Green Party’s autumn
The Pennine Lecture Theatre at the university’s campus
will play host to the party in September 2011, six months after the Liberal
Democrats holds its conference at neighbouring Sheffield City Hall.
Five hundred delegates are expected at the event, which
is being organised by Conference 21 in partnership with Sheffield Convention
Conference 21’s Becky Stanyard said: “The Green Party
was impressed with our city centre location.
“Delegates will have access to fantastic modern
facilities at Sheffield Hallam and the venue is just opposite the train station
which meets the party’s green
transport credentials. Hosting this event at such an interesting
time for British politics is a real
feather in the cap for the University and for Conference 21,” she said.
Sheffield Convention Bureau’s Business Tourism Manager
Emma France said: “Sheffield is fast developing an enviable national profile as
a first rate venue for major events and is following in the success of others in
this field such as Manchester, Birmingham and Liverpool.
“These events also bring vital economic impact to the
city spend in our businesses such as hotels and restaurants. This news will only
bolster Sheffield’s reputation and we plan to
build upon that recognition and success in the future,” she said.
