Job losses expected as UniversalProcon and WorldEvents merge

Following its acquisition by United Drug plc
in November 2010, event management agency WorldEvents is set to merge with UniversalProcon, 1 March, to create the largest agency
specialising in serving the healthcare sector.

The company, to be known as Universal
WorldEvents, will have a combined turnover close to £100m and 250 employees
around the world. The company will operate in the UK out of offices in Cleckheaton, Ashby de la
Zouch and London.

In the previous 12 months the companies
managed over 1,100 meetings and events in over 45

The company said that some job duplication
existed so had entered a consultation period with staff affected. Managing
Director of UniversalProcon Graham McIntosh, said he hoped to fill existing
positions internally to minimise redundancies. “There will be no changes, as a
result of this process, to any of the client facing event teams on either side
of the business,” McIntosh said.

McIntosh will also become Managing Director
of Universal WorldEvents with WorldEvents MD Martin Parry taking a seat on the
board and reporting into SMMS Managing Director, Chris Corbin. Eventia Chairman
Mark Saxby becomes Sales and Marketing Director; Andrew Winterburn, European
Director and Jeremy Wilson, Finance Director.
