Conference supplier invests in fair trade factory

Conference bag provider
Nexus Collections has invested over
£124,000 in what it believes to be the “world’s first ethical manufacturing
facility for the production of event bags”.

The factory is based in
China and is designed to offer the
highest level of working conditions to its
employees.

“Our new factory in
China is not only ethical, but we
have included higher wages, staff bonus schemes, additional staff holidays and other welfare
measures for our workers,” said MD of
Nexus, Nick Jones.

These facilities work
towards setting new standards for the improvement of working conditions of the Chinese textile
sector. In recent years, foreign companies with factories have seen labour
unrest due to low wages and poor working conditions. Many coastal provinces have
also seen the closure of dilapidated state-owned factories.

“There has
been a 30 per cent shortage of workers in many cases, as people have migrated to
inland provinces due to a government’s stimulus programme to develop inland infrastructure,” added Jones.
“By providing our facilities, we have managed to retain our work
force.”
