The closing of the
conference and exhibition centre, which according to the management company Centurion Properties has been running at
a loss since the company took over the site two years ago, will mean the loss of 50
director Trevor Croucher told local newspaper the Burton Mail the hotel had not been
profitable. “We tried to turn it around during the two-and-a-half years we owned
it. Despite everyone’s efforts it still was not viable,” he said.
He added the conference
centre would be absorbed into the Bretby Business Park and his company would apply to turn
the centre into a warehouse.
South Derbyshire District
Council’s Labour opposition leader, Kevin Richards, described the centre to the
newspaper as the “jewel in the region’s crown”.
“We need a venue like the

Derbyshire. I would like to see another company take over the
business and retain its function as a hotel and conference centre,” he
