Bamber Bridge-based event organiser Pennine Events helped attract 1,500 runners to the Bradford City Run earlier this month. Organised on behalf of City of Bradford Metropolitan District Council, the event, now in its second year, included a half marathon, a relay, and 5k, 3k and 1k fun runs.
Michael del Monte from Canada won the half marathon.
Mark Sandamas, Director of Pennine Events, said he was pleased his company had again won the tender for what he told CN was an event worth £120,000.
“We managed to offset cash costs with some good sponsorship and we got a 50 per cent increase in participants from the inaugural event last year,” he added.
“With a major traffic management operation in the heart of Britain’s sixth biggest city, this was a complex and demanding event to put on, but also one of the most satisfying,” he said.
“The Council intends to develop next year’s event even further,” said Sandamas, “with the backing of the national Veteran Athletics Association”.
He added that his company had noticed an increase in demand for running events: “It is a market coming back up.”
