New entertainment venue and hotel near completion in Guildford

Work is near completion on Guildford’s new entertainment venue.

The venue, which is yet to be named and due to officially open in autumn 2011, will offer a 1,000-seat or 1,700 standing capacity auditorium, a studio space, two function rooms, five seminar rooms, bars and catering facilities.

Willmott Dixon Construction was appointed by Guildford Borough Council to build the new events space, which was a former 1962 Civic Hall Building. The original building was outdated and no longer met current and future standards and demands, it closed in January 2004.

Work is also underway on a new £60m Radisson hotel adjacent to the entertainment venue. The four-star  hotel is to have 185 rooms, two restaurants and two bars and conference and banqueting facilities.

Conference Desk Guildford’s Diana Roberts says: “The new spaces will considerably add to Guildford’s event space offering.”
