Expotel acquires Venues Event Management

Expotel has announced the acquisition of
Venues Event Management
(VEM), the conference and event management services agency, for an
undisclosed sum.

The deal was effective from 1 November 2010
and is further evidence of Expotel’s conference and events growth strategy which
included the acquisition of online business LateMeetings.com 12 months
ago.

Expotel CEO Ian Burnley promised to target
further meetings and events market share growth: “We have been looking for a strong business
to take our conference and events business to the next level and Venues Event
Management is a perfect fit. The combination of the VEM and Expotel and
LateMeetings activities more than doubles the size of our meetings and events
business and creates a powerful market-leading presence.”

VEM will continue to trade under its brand name and operate from its
base in Swindon and provide a southern office to Expotel’s existing operations
in Manchester, Stockport, Leeds and Glasgow.

Anita Lowe, CEO of the 95-strong VEM team, said she was
excited with the opportunity to build her business within the Expotel group.
“The management teams and service cultures fit well and Expotel has developed
some great technology which will enable us to continue to develop our client
relationships,” she said.

The deal marks Expotel’s fourth acquisition
following the management buyout in 2008.

“We have a clear acquisition programme in
mind,” said Burnley, “and will continue to look
for businesses and teams which fit our growth plans and culture. We are looking
to continue to develop the group in all three of our key market segments: hotel
and business travel,
conference and events and online services. We are aiming for market leading
positions: we believe we are the number one ranked HBA and are now around the top
five in the conference
and events market.”
