EICC lays foundations for £85m expansion

Edinburgh
International Conference Centre (EICC)

has laid the
foundations for its £85m expansion space that includes a new 2,000sqm
multi-purpose main hall.

The foundations are laid 12 metres below ground level on
a solid layer of sandstone, siltstone and mudstone.

Commenting on the development, that includes separate
office accommodation in the centre of Edinburgh, EICC Head of Events, Karen
Wood, said: “We are on schedule for a Spring 2013 opening and, with work on the
new space well underway, we anticipate a steady stream of qualified new business
enquires for a bigger EICC at EIBTM.”

Wood says events through to the opening of the new space
will be largely unaffected as almost all of the major construction work takes
place on an adjacent site.
