Dressed to kill for a winning Scrabble day on the tiles

The National Scrabble Championships 2010 were again held at London’s Cavendish Conference Centre this year. The venue has been home of the Championships since 2004.

This year’s winner generated more column inches than usual, being not only a relative newcomer to the game, but also a cross-dresser.

Mikki Nicholson, who has only been playing for five years via the internet, beat four-time winner Mark Nyman in the deciding fifth game. Nicholson competed in the final dressed in a PVC dress and pink wig.

Cavendish Conference Venues issued a statement congratulating Mikki on his win: “We wish him the best of luck in the Causeway Scrabble Challenge which takes place in Malaysia next month.”
