Sol Melia to open ME London hotel in 2012

Spanish hotel and resort operator Sol
Melia is set to build a ME ‘experienced-based’ hotel in London in time for the 2012
Olympic Games.

As the sixth personality hotel to the
ME Hotels brand, ME London will be built on the former site of the City Bank
building in Holborn and consist of 7,857sqm of events space in its own
convention centre, two restaurants, a bar and 173 bedrooms.

British architect Sir Norman Foster
is on board for the project, which will be the second Sol Melia hotel in
London joining
the Melia White House located next to Regent’s
Park.

The ME Hotels brand currently
includes two hotels in Spain,
ME Madrid and ME Barcelona; two in Mexico, ME Cancun and ME Cabo; and
the recent addition of ME Vienna, occupying 22 floors of the tallest building in
the Austrian capital, which opened in May 2010.

“With ME Vienna’s opening, we are
excited about the rapid expansion of the ME Hotels brand,” says Vice-Chairman
and CEO of Sol Melia Hotels and Resorts, Gabriel Escarrer Jaume.

ME London will have ‘Biosphere Hotel’ certification, a social
and environmental hallmark already granted to the ME Madrid, ME Cancun and ME Barcelona.
