Industry leaders to lobby MPs at Parliament

The Business Visits and Events
Partnershp-sponsored Events
and the Britain for
Events market report,
which has just valued UK business tourism to be
worth over £36bn to the economy, will be presented to over 60 MPs, peers and
government officials tonight (20 October).

A House of Commons reception will be attend
by over 100 of the meetings industry’s key figures, including VisitBritain Chief
Executive, Sandie Dawe, and Excel London CEO, Kevin Murphy, who will lead the
formal presentations.

There will be leading representatives from
the buyer, supplier, venue and destination communities, eager to explain to the
policy-makers the impact of the meetings industry.

“This is a really big day for our sector as
for the first time we are able to present a clear and coherent industry, its
size, its value and its contribution to UK plc,” said BVEP Chairman, Michael
Hirst. “We’re less than six months into the new administration so it’s
significant that we’ve had such a positive response from government.”

The event will be hosted by Tobias Ellwood,
MP and Don Foster MP, as part of the Britain for Events 2010
