Edinburgh conference business hits £40m

Edinburgh has announced £40.4m in
confirmed conferences and
meetings for 2010, due to the recent
commitment of a group of new
events.

Figures released by the Edinburgh Convention Bureau (ECB) include
£7.6m attributed to conferences confirmed between 4 September and 1 October 2010. The ECB
confirmed the city will play host to
20 new events which will take place between October this year and September
2012.

The
subjects under discussion at the newly confirmed meetings range from metal organic frameworks to veterinary immunology, epidemiology and
gastroenterology.

It is
estimated that these most recent conference wins for Edinburgh will bring up to
8,230 delegates to the city.

”Edinburgh continues to demonstrate it possesses
the rich diversity of qualities essential for a globally attractive and
successful business tourism destination,” said chief executive of ECB, Sue
Stuart.
