Arnaldo Ardone elected new ICCA President

The International
Congress and Convention Association elected Arnaldo Ardone its new President at
its 49th Congress and General Assembly in Hyderabad, India, 24 October.

This year the
presidency was contested and Nardone was elected over First Vice-President,
MCI’s Jurriaen Sleijster. Nardone takes over the post from outgoing President
Leigh Harry, who steps down after four years at the helm.

ICCA
Chief
Executive Martin Sirk
reported this year’s Congress had attracted 722 member company delegates from 59
countries, a slight drop on last year’s record attendance in Florence.

The association,
Sirk reported, was “very solid”, with a surplus of 106,252 euros and accumulated
reserves rising to over 892,000 euros.

Each of ICCA’s 11
regional chapters, said Sirk, had been asked to plan for an extra 4,000 euros in
development this past year.

A further rise in
expenditure on education was planned for 2011, Sirk added, with membership
rising to 894, including over 100 new members.

VisitBritain and
Failte Ireland were two member organisations
recognised for 40 years of membership at the opening
ceremony.
