Singapore sling for Grass Roots

Grass Roots
is looking to open an office in Singapore by January
2011.

The strategy
follows the full service event agency’s opening of a New York office in April
and, says MD Des McLaughlin “is designed to strengthen Grass Roots’ support of
its financial clients in their key regions”.

“We’ve found
both in New York and Singapore there is a distinct lack of
specialist companies who really know how to manage clients’ meetings spend,”
says McLaughlin. “We are, therefore, looking to expand our offering to our
clients who also run meetings and events from these locations. New York has been a great
success story since its opening: it is ahead of its financial targets and has
won many client accounts since opening. We expect Singapore to have a similar
impact.”

The
Singapore office will be in
The Concourse in Beach
Road and will be managed by Lisa Hopkins who
previously headed up CiEvents in Auckland and was
also Regional Head of Meetings and Events in Singapore for Carlson Marketing.

“Lisa will
start with a small team which will expand in line with projected growth,”
McLaughlin tells CN.

“We look
after a large number of training programmes in Europe which also take place in
South East Asia and the USA and so we are looking to take our
best practice and replicate it in these regions,” McLaughlin explains.
“Europe is now quite advanced in the way
companies’ procure meetings and these regions are now showing a real desire to
adopt these practices.”
