A new £10m Conference and Community Centre in
Thornhill, Southampton, was launched with a turf cutting ceremony 25 June to
signal the start of works.
The old Eastpoint Centre venue in Thornhill
is a former school converted to community use 26 years ago and redevelopment is
a major project for the city of Southampton.
Paul Bennett tells conference-news that one and a half of the three storeys in
the new-build will be given over to commercial events use. “We will be able to
offer 18 meeting rooms and moveable walls will enable us to seat up to 400
people for a single event, making us the number four conference facility in
Southampton, after the Rose Bowl, St Mary’s and the Cruise Centre.”The
new centre is scheduled for completion next year and will offer 3,770sqm of

Royston Smith, says the project will benefit both business and the local
community. “The facilities will include a first-class training and conference
space,” Cllr. Smith noted. “For the local community there will be meeting rooms
for community groups, a social club and a restaurant area.
