Blackpool ambassadors join the meetings premier league

Following the
town’s football team’s promotion to the Premiership, business and academic
figures in Blackpool are launching an ambassador initiative to attract conferences and
meetings to the region.

The new
Conference Ambassadors will be backed by Lancashire and Blackpool Conferences and Meetings when
bidding for conferences.

Lancashire
businessman Craig Bancroft, joint proprietor of Michelin-starred restaurant
Northcote, was the first ambassador to sign up to the
scheme.

Others to have
joined come from key business sectors, including manufacturing and aerospace,
health and regeneration. Academia is represented by ambassadors from Lancaster
University, UCLan and Blackpool and Fylde College.

“I am extremely
honoured to be the first recruit to this programme,” said Bancroft, “and
committed to doing all I can to help attract this lucrative conference business.
Lancashire and Blackpool has some truly fantastic and unique venues that can
offer marvellous experiences for business travellers and that’s the message we
are going to take with us wherever we go.’’

Chief
executive of Lancashire and Blackpool Tourist
Board (LBTB), Mike Wilkinson, says the bidding process for conferences and
events requires
time, planning and resources.

“This
is where we at Lancashire & Blackpool Conferences & Meetings come in by
offering ambassadors a full support service which includes completing bidding
documents, preparing presentations, hosting familiarisation visits and sourcing
appropriate venues and hotels,” notes Wilkinson.
