Blackpool set to become Premier meetings destination

Following Blackpool FC’s victory
against Cardiff FC in football’s Championship Play Off Final, and subsequent
promotion to the Premier League, local tourist chiefs predict an upswing in the
town’s meetings and tourism sectors.

Blackpool’s wider
local economy will also benefit, as football fans and tourists will visit all
year round, bringing an economic boost during the typically quieter winter
months at the seaside resort.

“We’ve had many new enquiries from
businesses about conference and meeting rooms, with many of those turning into
confirmations already,” says the Lancashire and
Blackpool Tourist Board’s Tony Openshaw.

Local bars, restaurants and budget
hotels are all hoping to cash in on the influx of fresh
visitors.

“After the disappointments of losing
the annual political party conferences and the non-starter of hosting a
‘supercasino’, this result is a huge boost for Blackpool and the surrounding area,” adds
Openshaw.
