Meeting Professionals International EMEC 2010 opens

Three hundred delegates are attending the
2010 Meeting Professionals International (MPI) European Meetings and Events
Conference (EMEC), which officially opened in Malaga on Sunday, 28
February.

Malaga Fairs and Congress Centre is the host
venue for the association’s major European education conference. MPI chairman
Ann Godi opened proceedings, telling delegates a “transformation” of business
events was underway.

“Instead of looking back, we need to look
forward to the new normal,” she said. “There is a strong link between innovation
and growth, and with change comes opportunity. Embrace the upside of
change.”

Reed Travel Exhibitions’ chairman of meetings
and events portfolio, Vanessa Cotton, told delegates how MPI had helped her in
her career. “MPI helped my business to grow and prosper and helped me to grow in
all my roles within this industry.”

Leadership methodologist Paul Bridle said
delegates had a “responsibility not to organise bad meetings. Meetings are not
toxic. The meetings landscape is being reinvented, and we need to re-paint the
canvas”.

Malaga’s mayor,
Francisco De La Torre, also welcomed delegates to EMEC, which continues until 3
March.
