London ICC targets European and US markets

London’s first ICC at Excel is
actively seeking business from Europe and North
America, according to its director of conferences and events James
Rees.

“Twenty five per cent of all of our conferences and
events business is from overseas, and this is where we are targeting our
marketing efforts,” he tells conference-news.

The venue has even produced a sales brochure in American
English, in a bid to attract organisers from across the
pond.

The ICC, which opens its doors in May, has already secured £6m worth of events business,
which will bring up to £100m to the economy, split between delegate spending and
pending contracts.

Forthcoming
events include the European Conference on Optical Communications, expecting
around 4,000 delegates in 2013, and the European Federation of National
Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, which will host an estimated
8,000 delegates in 2014.

Though,
Rees says the European Society of Cardiology conference is on his top 20 events
wish list. The conference attracts 30,000 delegates and has formerly been held
in Stockholm, Vienna and Barcelona.
