Heathrow must work better, says travel guild

In light of last week’s ruling in the High Court by Lord
Justice Carnwath that, “the government’s decision to give the third runway the
green light was ‘untenable’,” the Guild of Travel Management Companies chief
executive, Anne
Godfrey, says “most
travellers just want the airport to work better and be able to get to it
easily”.

Godfrey stresses the “huge importance of Heathrow to the
business traveller”. A GTMC survey of 1,250 business travellers, she says,
highlighted that Heathrow is still the airport that dominates discussion.

“The GTMC members and their corporate clients take the
environmental impact of their travel decisions seriously and it is therefore
essential that any decision on Heathrow is supported by the best evidence
available on both environmental and business impact,” adds Godfrey.

“What business really wants with regards Heathrow and
other airports is clarity on future capacity in order to properly plan and make
investment decisions.”
