The Angel of the North tops poll

The Angel
of the North has been voted the UK’s most recognisable
landmark.

In the poll
of 3,015 Britons commissioned by budget hotel chain Travelodge, 83 per cent
identified a photograph of Gormley’s steel sculpture of an angel sited near
Gateshead in northeast England.

NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau will unveil its
Angel of the North stand for the very first time when it exhibits at
International Confex 2010 from February 23-25 at London’s Earl’s
Court.

Head of business tourism Jessica Roberts, says: “The Angel of the
North perfectly encapsulates what NewcastleGateshead is all about. It is bold,
inspirational and has a character all of its own. For conference planners, the
Angel provides an instantly recognisable symbol which never fails to capture
their delegates’ imaginations.”

NewcastleGateshead Convention Bureau will be joined at
Confex by eight of its
members – the highest ever number of
bureau stand partners to attend the show.

These include: Hilton Newcastle Gateshead, Newcastle
United Football Club, Newcastle
University, Radisson BLU Hotel,
Durham, Ramside
Estates, Rockliffe Hall, The Sage Gateshead and Event Durham.
