Liberty considers company split

Liberty International, whose portfolio includes Capital and Counties,
owner of Earls
Court and Olympia, is considering demerging its business.

The
restructure would see the £6.1bn business divide in two with one company focused
on its £4.4bn shopping centre business and the other on its £1.7bn London portfolio, which includes Earl’s Court and Olympia, where the group
is planning a new mixed-use development.

Some analysts believe that
the cost of the Earl’s Court development may be one of the reasons for considering
splitting the portfolio.

In a
statement the company said: “The
Board confirms that it is actively considering a reorganisation of the group by
way of a demerger of a London focused entity from
its shopping centre business, Capital Shopping
Centres.”
