Birmingham NEC Group’s ICC to launch a catering first

The International
Convention Centre (ICC), Birmingham, will unveil
a restaurant-style tasting menu
for banqueting at this year’s International Confex and claims it as
“a first for the UK event catering industry”.

Delegates visiting The
ICC/Meet Birmingham stand will be able to sample dishes from a typical tasting
menu developed by NEC Group Catering executive head chef, Paul
Gould.

“While a tasting menu
is a familiar sight in Michelin star restaurants,” says Gould, “we have found
that the catering industry has been unsuccessful at delivering this for high
volumes. We’re recognised for being able to take niche restaurant concepts and
deliver them to scale, so this presented a great challenge. We will be able to
offer this to event organisers for up to 150 guests initially, with a goal of
extending this to 250.”

NEC Group Catering is
also planning to offer mini cookery classes, demonstrating the featured dishes.

“The concept is
designed to help organisers make the most of their events with us, particularly
at a time when differentiating their business and standing out from the crowd is
essential,” says NEC Group Catering MD Sally Davis.
