MPI UK launches Young Achievers competition

MPI UK and Ireland Chapter and the Switzerland
Convention Bureau are to launch, in conjunction with UK Universities, an MPI Young Achievers Award
(YAA), designed to recognise new talent in the UK
conference and meetings industry.

A one-day competition will be
held in London
in June 2010. Participating event management
faculties will brief their students to produce an event proposal and prepare a
pitch to a panel of meeting professionals, including UK agencies, corporates, MPI and the Switzerland bureau.

MPI’s UK chapter vice-president
international relations, Paul Cook, says: “The initiative’s importance is in
retaining and growing the talent that is coming from our universities that
specialise in event management and so helping to raise industry standards
overall.”

The organisers also promise
to help the young achievers with networking opportunities and links to senior
meetings industry contacts.

A trip to Switzerland is the prize for the team
that wins the 1st Young Achievers Award next June.
