Vinopolis research uncorks bespoke solutions

research commissioned by London venue Vinopolis
identifies tighter budgets and a decline in conference frequency as the major
concerns for the UK’s
conference buyers.

average number of delegates per conference came out at 72 people in this survey
of 14,000 industry contacts.

average budget per delegate among those who arrange conferences with packaged
solutions was £77, with budgets generally highest for pharmaceutical, media,
banking and financial conferences.

per cent of those surveyed consider location to be the most critical factor
when booking a venue. This is followed by the importance of venue quality
(89%), price (88%) and capacity (75%). Less important are entertainment/team
building activity facilities (11%) and on-site availability of an experienced
management team (21%). 

and refreshments are considered important/vital to over three-quarters of event
bookers, taking priority over ‘extras’ such as ambient lighting (55%), delegate
stationery (32%) and video conferencing (18%).

events industry considers wireless internet (87%) to be the most important
extra, whereas the bankers put the most emphasis on a range of lunch options

pharmaceutical industry is keenest to stress the importance of the venue to
offer a hotel partner and is the only sector to include ‘team building’ (10%)
in their expectations of conferences.

advantage of individual industry variations.

MD Rupert Ellwood says the research “produced both clear and indicative results
as to how to tailor our offering to deliver our clients expectations. The
majority of respondents not only prefer bespoke solutions over packaged
conferences but also book more bespoke events, demonstrating a move away from
the popular day delegate rates of recent years”.
