New COO in Cape Town

Joey Pather has been
appointed as the new chief operating officer for the Cape Town International
Convention Centre (CTICC), effective 1 January 2010.

Chief executive, Rashid
Toefy says the appointment of Pather comes as the centre heads into a new
phase. In June next year, Amsterdam RAI’s management contract for running the
centre runs out, and MD Dirk Elzinga will resign.

“With CTICC setting
itself the ambitious goal of being the best long haul international convention
centre by 2020 it is essential that we have a dynamic leadership
team in place,” says Toefy. “With over 18 years experience in the conferencing
and hospitality industry, Pather brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to
the organisation.”

Pather became operations
manager at the ICC in Durban
before moving to CTICC in 2003 to take on the position of general manager of
catering and, in 2006, the role of general manager for commercial development.

Pather also serves as a
national board member of the South African Association for the Conference
Industry (SAACI).

For the first year of the
new period in CTICC’s existence, Toefy says Amsterdam RAI and Dirk Elzinga will
continue to support the new management where and when required on a consultancy
basis.
