The London Marriott Hotel Twickenham’s opening of six
luxury suites with views of the hallowed turf completes the Rugby Football
Union’s £100 million rebuilding plan.
The suites are named after six Grand Slam-winning
England captains and can be hired for
private meeting hire on non-match days. Twickenham Experience MD Chris Morris tells
conference-news that this autumn has seen some
strong business being won at the South Stand’s Conference and Events centre,
with figures up on 2008.
“Twenty per cent of the events business is coming
because we now have an on-site hotel,” he says, while admitting that business
for the 2009 Christmas season is “tougher than last
Morris says that before the South Stand project was
Twickenham events business turnover was around £900,000, a figure that rose to
£2.25 million in the first year of operations and which is now on track to hit
£3.5 million for the year to June 2010.
