A sea fort built to
protect part of Britain’s coastline from Napoleon in
1878, currently used as an events venue, is up for
Spitbank Fort, located a
mile out from Portsmouth Harbour, now hosts conferences, weddings,
parties and corporate events within its 15ft granite walls. The guide price is
“The owners have had a
great time converting Spitbank into a
functioning event venue, but they feel its time to move on and have instructed auctioneers to
sell,” says site manager, Lee Madigan.
Popping out for a pint of
milk is not a quick task, with the boat journey to and from the shore
approximately 15 minutes each way.
“The flip side to that is
that events are ‘exclusive’ and not subject to any outside influences. It’s just
been granted licences to double capacity to 500 and extend its opening hours in
the evening too,” adds Madigan.
The auction will take
place 4 November at the Rose Bowl, near Southampton.
