Bournemouth extracts dental pounds

The British
Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy’s (BSDHT) Annual Oral Health conference
and exhibition at the Bournemouth International Centre (BIC) brought £600,000
to the local economy through delegate expenditure.

The two-day event,
organised by the BSDHT for dental hygienists, attracted 800 delegates and 185
exhibitors.

BIC’s head of
conferences, exhibitions and events Clive Tyers says: “The medical association
market is important for us, and something we continue to do well in.”Recent statistics value Bournemouth’s business tourism at £115m, of which the
BIC and Pavilion contribute £65m annually through conferences and exhibitions
staged at the venues. The remaining £50m is a result of conferences, events and
meetings at other venues in the seaside town.
