Tall wedding chimes in Pompey

Portsmouth’s Spinnaker
Tower claims to be the tallest wedding
venue in the UK.

Loved-up couples can say
’I do’ at the height of romance, now that Portsmouth City Council has granted
the 170 metre high attraction in
Gunwharf Quays a licence to hold civil ceremonies.

Since opening in 2005,
the Spinnaker Tower
has held wedding receptions and corporate functions, but now it has become one of only 13 venues in Portsmouth to hold a civil ceremony licence, allowing
for the full wedding package.

Spinnaker’s commercial manager, Paul Mahy, describes the granting
of the licence as “exciting news”. He explains ceremonies can take place
105 metres above the harbour on view
deck two and couples can have the tower lit up in a colour of their choice.

Meanwhile, what claims to be London’s largest Riverside
venue, Altitude 360, recently unveiled 360˚ views over the capital from its
Westminster Riverside location.

Perched
at the top of Millbank
Tower, Altitude was officially
opened by Mayor Boris Johnson last October – when the views were just 180˚ –
and can accommodate 600 party guests.
