Newcastle celebrates summer success

NewcastleGateshead
Convention Bureau has reported a 14 per cent increase in conference bookings at
NewscastleGateshead over the summer.

The business
tourism team, which attracts conferences to the destination, also recorded
record accommodation
bookings in June, July and August, which were up by 80 per cent.

The bureau’s operations
manager, Anna Moroney, says there are two reasons for the increases. “Firstly,
we are working with more conference organisers who are keen to make the most of
the Convention Bureau’s free, local knowledge. Secondly, we have focused on how
we can help organisers to boost their delegate attendance figures and drive
additional bookings.”

The area has recently
secured a number of conferences including media and science conventions and the
National Union of Students annual conference in 2010 and
2011.
