Buyers stick with Green

Event buyers are
booking venues based on environmental and sustainability credentials, according
to a new survey.

Smarts Research
commissioned by the Telford and Shropshire
Convention Bureau found that 58 per cent of corporate organisers and 68 per
cent of public sector event organisers are sticking to their green principles
despite the recession.

The survey
sample of over 150 event buyers also found that 90 per cent of buyers in the public sector
and 70 per cent of corporate buyers believe that environmental credentials have
remained important since the onset of the recession.

The research is part of a new initiative by the bureau to improve the
environmental credentials of the destination, its venues and services.

Commenting
on the findings, business tourism manager at Telford
and Shropshire Conferences, Sarah Bird, says: “It is clear that environmental
considerations are still high on the agenda for event buyers.”
