Association summit sets up working party to lobby government

Fifteen meetings industry associations have agreed to
set up a working party to look at improving the industry’s voice in the
corridors of power both nationally and locally.

Meeting on the eve of Event UK in Birmingham, the summit, facilitated by Visit
Britain head of business and events Joss Croft and Confex Group portfolio
director Duncan Reid, agreed to work out ideas for an industry continual
professional development (CPD) programme. The Association of Event Management
Educators will lead the effort to roll out a strategy in the New
Year.

The third key point agreed by the association
representatives was to put together a shared industry calendar of events, to be
hosted on the Business Visits and Events Partnership (BVEP)
website.

The association summit also committed to increasing
support for existing and new activity to enhance the industry’s profile and
professionalism, with specific discussion topics and activities to be progressed
at the next BVEP meeting in November 2009.

The full list of association summit attendees is: ABPCO,
ACE, AEME, AEO, AEV, BVEP, ESSA, Eventia, HBAA, ICCA, ISES, MIA, MPI, NOEA and
SITE GB.
