Yorkshire targets 8% extra

Yorkshire’s four main conference bureaus are to team up for the first time to host a ‘Yorkshire Pavilion’ at this year’s Event UK.

Yorkshire South, Conference Leeds, Visit Hull and East Yorkshire, and York will be attending the exhibition, 22-23 September at Birmingham NEC, as partners.

The idea is part of a new drive, steered by Welcome to Yorkshire, to enhance the region’s product and offer through strategic collaboration and creative alliances.

Welcome to Yorkshire’s chief executive Gary Verity says: “At Welcome to Yorkshire we have set ambitious targets for growing business tourism in the region. Though it’s currently worth £400m to the visitor economy in Yorkshire, we want to raise that by eight per cent year on year.

“We have some of the best venues in the UK, but we’re enhancing that product by creating a strong, co-ordinated network of conference bureaus and premier business tourism venues. Our ‘Yorkshire Pavilion’ showcases that approach.”
