Hotel evacuated after gas leak

Staff and guests at the Runnymede Hotel and Spa in Egham had to be
evacuated after a gas leak.

Contractor Chorus
Group, renovating the property, was removing a tree on site which caused a
crack in the main gas main resulting in the attendance of the emergency
services.

As a precaution,
the site was evacuated and the surrounding roads and the M25 Surrey were closed
both ways between J12 and J14.

A spokesman for
the hotel says: “The site is now safe and secure and repairs are being carried
out. No-one was injured.”

The hotel is
family-owned and run by Ralph Trustees.
