Barmy Army fed by Leeds conference team

The Barmy Army and its trumpeter may have been asked to tone it down at
the recent Headingley Ashes Test, but Leeds University’s conferencing
and events team showed them some love, baking a cake for the hard core
fans dubbed even by Aussie captain Ricky Ponting as “the best group of
supporters in any sport around the world”.

The idea was to celebrate the Ashes coming to Yorkshire, said head of
sales and marketing for the residential and commercial services at the
University, Richard Handscombe. “It’s very exciting to welcome the
Ashes tour to Yorkshire and we wanted to do something to keep the Barmy
Army going throughout the day and what better way than with some good,
hearty cake. Lisa Hall, our head chef in the conferencing and events
team, worked throughout the night to ensure the cake was fresh, tasty
and substantial enough to feed the fans.”
